The Department of Civil Service reports that about 400 internship opportunities will available for the spring 2017 semester throughout New York State at State departments and agencies. The deadline for apply for a 2017 spring semester internship is December 23, 2016.

The Student Intern Program is open to graduate and undergraduate students at colleges and universities throughout New York State, as well as New York State residents enrolled elsewhere. The Student Intern Program offers paid and unpaid positions and may provide academic credit depending on the policy of the intern’s educational institution.

The Student Intern Program is focused on drawing new and highly-skilled individuals to the State workforce through both a fellowship and internship program.  Through this program, undergraduate and graduate students are exposed to the work of governing, while gaining valuable hands-on program experience and interaction with government leaders and policy-makers. New York State Department of Civil Service Acting Commissioner Lola W. Brabham encourages students to apply and to learn first-hand the value of a career in public service.

New York State has a one-stop website – http://nysinternships.cs.ny.gov – which lists intern job descriptions and allows interested students to create personnel profiles, specify occupational interests, and upload resumes, writing samples, and letters of recommendation. Students can apply for multiple internships at the same time.
